The USS Tornado NCC 1974 is a Starfleet Command fan ship is based out of Louisville Kentucky USA.
Why the name Tornado?
On April 3rd 1974 a tornado outbreak with 148 confirm tornadoes slammed not only into the city of Louisville but also a good part of the country. This came to be known as the Super Outbreak in the aftermath our city came together like nothing before and helped one another. The churches opened up Community Ministries to help coordinate needs that people would have. Those Ministries are still open today. Not only that neighbors helped neighbors with what ever was needed for example help to remove debris but also when needed help them rebuild. Plus not to mention certain scientific advancements and technologies came about because of the 1974 Super outbreak. Some of these include the tornado rating scale now known as the Enhanced Fujita scale (EF scale), Doppler radar, also warning systems like the outdoor warning sirens and also not to mention the emergency broadcast system. This is just a start. All of this reminds us of the philosophy of Star Trek stated by Gene Roddenberry where everyone helps each other no matter what Therefore we have this ship in honor of those that not only survived that day but also thrived
